Quick & Natural Remedies: Say Bye to Heartburn & Acidity
What is Heartburn, Acid Reflux and Peptic Ulcer Disease?
Heartburn is a condition which characterizes with burning sensation in the upper part of the abdomen.
This part lies at the junction of chest and abdomen.
There is a sphincter (like a valve), called Lower Esophageal Sphincter or LES. The LES prevents the back flowing of the stomach contents into the esophagus.
In patients suffering from hyperacidity, some of the stomach contents, including digestive juices and acid are pushed back up into the esophagus (food pipe). This problem is called as Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease or GERD. Most commonly, the cause of development of this disease is unknown. Yet, it is often associated with certain food and drink.
Constant reflux of stomach contents may lead to the development of many chronic problems due to severe acid reflux. One of the most dreaded complication is, the Esophageal Cancer. As a result of constant hyperacidity in response to certain food and drink may lead to the development of Peptic Ulcer Disease in the stomach wall.
Heartburn Relief Remedies: How to get rid of acid reflux?
Though the prevalence of this health problem is very high, but the long term complications are not widely known. Hence, it’s very essential to control the severe acid reflux disease, to suppress the complications arising from it. Here are the steady, non-failing quick methods to cure severe acid reflux disease naturally –
1. Change Your Lifestyle
Eating fried food, carbonated drinks, spicy foods, and sedentary lifestyle are some of the major attractions to this problem. Most of these food and drink are acidic in nature. Moreover, these food stimulate the acid secreting cells in the stomach wall to produce more acid. Consequently, hyperacidity ensues, and acid reflux disease sets in.
Sedentary lifestyle is a major culprit for most of the health problems. Furthermore, lack of Anti-oxidant diet leads to enhanced inflammatory response throughout the body. As a result, dangerous chemical mediator takes over the digestive system. To treat acid reflux disease, you must make sure to indulge in some physical activity, totally avoid overeating and eating late at nights.
2. Use More Alkaline Foods in Diet
Alkaline food neutralizes the hyperacidity of the stomach. Furthermore, these alkaline food are rich source of many digestive enzymes. Consequently, the food you consume is easily digested by the healthy enzymes present in the alkaline foods. This maintains pH (acidity) of the body, which is actually required for a better functioning.
Here is the list of commonly available alkaline food, which you must include in your daily diet-
- Green leafy vegetables like Spinach, Sarson, Kale, Methi, Parwal, Zucchini
- Dry Fruits and nuts like Almonds, Dates, Walnuts, Kishmish
- Fresh herbs Coriander, Parsley, Basil, Garlic

- Most raw fruits like Apple, Banana, Avocado, Apricot, Plum, Pear, Peach, Pineapple, Watermelon, etc

3. Start Your Day with Honey Garlic Dip
This is a secret of eliminating many health problems in your life. Both these ingredients, honey and garlic are considered as Super foods. Both are Alkaline in nature, and enhance body immunity. A single garlic clove crushed and dipped into a tablespoonful of honey, will have magical effects on neutralizing the acidity of the stomach.
4. Aloe Vera Juice

5. Sleeping on Your Left Side
This may sound strange to you, but health experts believe that sleeping to your left can lead to fewer acid reflux problems. This is attributed to the shape of the stomach, as stated in the research done at JAMA Internal Medicine.
6. Lose Weight to Lessen Pressure on LES
Your Lower Esophageal Sphincter or LES, becomes less compliant with rising abdominal fat. Include some physical workouts to maintain a steady weight. Consequently, this will ease pressure on LES, and will decrease episodes of Acid Reflux and Heartburn.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar
Strange but true! A well known home remedy to reduce heartburn problems. Many patients suffer from heartburn because of LACK of acid in the stomach. This is really amusing. Because, till now, we have been learning about HYPERACIDITY, and suddenly, the problem is slowly shifting towards the Lack of Acid in Stomach!
Most patients are prescribed PPIs (Omeprazole, Lansoperazole, Pantoprazole, Rabeprazole) for suppressing acid production in the stomach. But many patients become HYPOCHORHYDRIC / ACHLORHYDRIC (little or no acid in stomach). This creates digestive problems, as the food is best digested at about 1 to 2 pH in the stomach (which is really very acidic medium). Consequently, lack of acid in stomach triggers same heartburn episodes to the patient. Therefore, instead of popping a PPI pill, one should consume Apple Cider Vinegar (which is a mild acidic agent).
Mix 2 Tablespoonful of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of warm water, and consume before meal. This may take few weeks to months to completely cure the ACHLORHYDRIC nature of the stomach. Stop consuming it, if you’re not feeling better or develop more severe acid reflux and heartburn.
The natural remedies may cure the problem temporarily, but visiting a Physician to correctly diagnose the situation is a must for all. There are some instances, where these remedies won’t work at all. These may include, Parasites in stomach, Hiatal Hernia, H.Pylori infection, and too much of alcohol and smoking. Although the heartburn and acid reflux problems are often overlooked by many Physicians, nevertheless, they can lead to serious complications. Therefore, it is prudent to start with the above described steps to quickly cure heartburn and severe acid reflux problems naturally.
